Chemelot is the large chemical industry complex situated around the intersection of the A2 and A67 motorways between Stein and Geleen in the province of Limburg. In recent years, the area has continued to develop from a traditional industrial park to a campus for research and development of new products. Sitech Services is responsible for the maintenance of a large part of Chemelot
Sitech Services specialises in worry-free services to the process industry by, for example, organising the complete maintenance of factory installations. From problem analysis to scope. From planning to implementation and assurance. Safe radio communication is also part of the worry-free approach.
Robust solution
Math Dusak, Senior at the Sitech Control Room explains: “In the quotation process for a new communication system, we first put together a project team consisting of people with both financial and technical expertise. That team prepared a programme of requirements. We were looking for a robust trunking solution. The system had to be easy to operate, use an open protocol and be easy to understand for the users.” To guarantee safe communication at Chemelot, Sitech opted for a TETRA system and ATEX two-way radios, installed and supplied by Flash Private Mobile Networks.
TETRA full coverage network
There are over twenty factories at the Sitech site, and the full coverage network is spread over eight sites. All factories use the same TETRA system. More than 650 two-way radios communicate daily about the course of business in order to work safely and efficiently. The network itself is flexible in nature, which suits the collaboration between Sitech and Flash. In case of a turnaround, additional rentals are always possible, sometimes up to 500 additional two-way radios. Every quarter there are several (small) turnarounds to keep the factory in optimal condition. Flash can easily facilitate this by (temporarily) expanding the communication fleet and ensuring that the massive network is in top condition at all times.
