Radio communications within Google: ensuring safety with guaranteed coverage

In doing so, they put those responsible within organizations in the spotlight. Data centers around the world keep the Google platform operational. According to Peter Zijl, Chief Porto of Google Netherlands, the two-way-radio is indispensable in that operation. ”Thanks to the two-way-radio we can perform our critical work and ensure security at our sites.”
Van Zijl’s team is responsible for power distribution to and cooling of the computers at location Google Eemshaven in Groningen. Because of the many people of different nationalities working at Google and a site about seventy soccer fields in size, it is imperative that everyone maintains the same communication guidelines when using walkie-talkies. Employees receive annual training in this and regular exercises with emergency services take place in which radio communication proves its added value again and again.
Guaranteed coverage
Within Google, walkie-talkies are the main communication because of the stable connection and the fact that many people can be communicated with at the same time. In emergencies, this is crucial for alerting. In an emergency, all communication traffic runs through the available alarm channel. With guaranteed connectivity on Odido’s (previously called T-Mobile) mobile network through PrioCom, communication is guaranteed. Even if transmitters fail or a power outage occurs, Google is prepared with 200% network capacity.
Flash is a regular walkie-talkie supplier and was recently involved in the implementation of the Distributed Antenna System (DAS) within Google.
